Holistic Approaches to Wellness
Research has found that holistic approaches to wellness have a positive effect on people’s health and wellness. Activity staff members have been trained in the following holistic approaches to use with our residents in the Sanctuary, during one-to-one visits and in group activities.
- Aromatherapy, with various essential oils, to induce calming, relaxing, stimulating, refreshing, soothing moods and to assist with memory retrieval
- Therapeutic touch with lotion to soothe skin, increase circulation, promote relaxation, decrease restlessness
- Meditation and Deep Breathing to induce relaxation and improve breathe control
- Pet Therapy with Coco, our miniature labradoodle, to provide companionship and love to our residents & several well-behaved dogs and puppies visit regularly
- Massage by Lindsay Merriman, COTA/L, LMT, our in-house massage therapist, provides partial body massages
- Music to assist with memory retrieval, relaxation, stimulation, via sing-a-longs 5X week, visiting musicians, during exercise group and while relaxing in the Sanctuary
- Sounds of nature to assist with relaxation and memory retrieval
- Yoga to assist with strengthening, stretching, circulation, posture and to foster the mind-body connection
- Social engagements and household chores – we provide daily planned activities for all of our residents. Residents who choose to do so can take on volunteer opportunities within our home
- Spiritual Support by local clergy who visit on a regular basis who are of different faith backgrounds
